Young, old, multi-racial, multi-ethnic,
poor, rich, powerless, powerful, suburban, rural, urban, honored, respected,
heard, valued, diverse yet similar, the same and yet so different, committed to
one another, all of us together united
in Christ. These were some of the thoughts, prayers, and realities
expressed at Saturday’s Urban Mission Cabinet-sponsored training led by Eric
Law of the Kaleidoscope Institute. Over
45 participants representing one quarter of Presbytery of
New Brunswick churches participated in a day of gracious listening, mutual
sharing, and honest communication focused on building inclusive communities
well-equipped to grow in relationship within the church and beyond its walls.
We thank the Urban Leadership Fund for making this event possible. We are
grateful too for the discovery, right within our own presbytery borders, of the
Lawrence Road Church’s gracious hospitality and its excellent facilities for
training, conversation, and fellowship.
Thanks be to God for these blessings—and watch this space for future
events that you won't want to miss!

The Urban Mission Cabinet of the Presbytery of New Brunswick
gives thanks to God and celebrates the successful sale of the former Bethany Presbyterian
Church. In joyful partnership with the
Bethany Property Administrative Commission, the UMC provided facilities
management and services for the former sanctuary building while working
together to explore all possible avenues for the building’s future use and making
space for non-stop ministry in that location from the time the congregation was
dissolved in summer of 2011 until the sale in January 2013. Under the direction of Jacque Howard, addiction
rehabilitation programs, several worshipping communities, various community
arts events and the main Trenton Crisis Ministry food pantry utilized the
Bethany church building during the interim period. The building contents were inventoried and
either archived or sold. And just this
past weekend, the UMC rejoiced as the former Bethany sanctuary piano, a
beautiful antique Steinway grand, filled the Titusville Presbyterian Church
with glorious music as the Titusville folk and the presbytery gathered to
welcome the piano to its new home.
